About This Station
Incorporated in 1890, the City of Coronado is a small seaside community with a rich history and charming ocean village atmosphere. Located in San Diego County, Coronado (Spanish for "Crowned") is nicknamed The Crown City.
Surrounded by the San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean, Coronado is connected to the mainland by a sandy stretch of land, called the Silver Strand and the San Diego-Coronado Bridge (commonly called the Coronado Bridge). Covering 13.5 square miles and with a resident and Navy population of about 23,000, the city offers something for everyone. With its spectacular views, world-famous beaches, historic Hotel del Coronado, and vibrant downtown, the city welcomes two million visitors a year.
Coronado operates under a council-manager form of government. The City of Coronado is a full-service city with its own police, fire, and marine safety protection, and maintains 18 public parks, tennis courts, a Community & Aquatics Center, public library, boat launch, dedicated bike and walking paths, and the Coronado Golf Course, rated as one of the best public golf courses in the nation.
Coronado is also home to Naval Air Station North Island (NASNI), Naval Amphibious Base Coronado (NAB), and Silver Strand Training Complex, supported by nearly 20,000 military and civilian personnel.
The southern California sunshine provides year-round enjoyment in Coronado with its natural beauty and makes the city a first-rate place to live, work, visit, and play.
